Skin redness – how do I treat my red and sensitive skin?

Skin specialist nurse Samantha talks through a cost-effective skincare regime from one of Skinaddict.co.uk’s top brands, Medik8.

The key focal point to work on is to strengthen your skin barrier. When you have red and sensitive skin, it’s essential to adopt a gentle and nourishing approach to skincare. A compromised skin barrier can lead to increased sensitivity, irritation, and even more redness.

I would recommend Medik8 as a good starting point as good value for money and their products are specifically designed to address sensitive skin concerns.

Here’s a regime below to start the process:

Step 1: Cleanse

Use the Medik8 Calmwise Soothing Cleanser (https://skinaddict.co.uk/product/medik8-calmwise-soothing-cleanser/) both morning and night to gently remove dirt and impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Step 2: Serum

Apply the Medik8 Calmwise Serum (https://skinaddict.co.uk/product/medik8-calmwise-serum/) after cleansing to help reduce inflammation and soothe the skin.

Step 3: Daytime Moisturise and Protect

In the morning, apply a good moisturiser that not only hydrates but also provides a natural green tint to help camouflage redness. I recommend the Medik8 Calmwise Colour Correct (https://skinaddict.co.uk/product/medik8-calmwise-colour-correct/)

Follow up with an SPF 50 sunscreen that suits your skin type and feels comfortable. This is crucial in protecting your skin from further damage and irritation. You can find  our hand-selected SPF products here: https://skinaddict.co.uk/product-tag/sun-protection/

Step 4: Nighttime Repair

In the evening, introduce low-level Retinal to strengthen the skin barrier and stimulate collagen production. Start with Crystal Retinal 1 (https://skinaddict.co.uk/product/medik8-crystal-retinal) and after 2 bottles, if you’re tolerating it well, move up to Crystal Retinal 3.

It can be beneficial to pinpoint the triggers that exacerbate your skin issues, as these may include certain foods, alcohol, stress, and hormonal changes. Additionally, visiting your GP could be essential for a proper diagnosis and to obtain medication that complements an easygoing skincare routine.

Remember, patience is key when it comes to treating red and sensitive skin.

Stick to this regime consistently, and you’ll start to see improvements over time. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, our email [email protected].
